Crusade Report: New Tafelsig, Cape Town

Tafelsig, Cape Town, South Africa

A CAPACITY CROWD

From the very first to the final evening, the tent pitched in the area of New Tafelsig in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town was packed with a capacity crowd. Whether lined against the sides, pressed up against the back or peering through the doorframe, the people who gathered represented the hunger of a community plagued with the torments of gang violence and drug abuse. Jesus responded to their desperation with a mighty floodtide of salvation and deliverance. A pastor joked one night that the devil must be hiding out on Robben Island. Surely after such a crusade, he is well on his way to Antarctica – with his tail between his legs!

AN EXTRAVAGANT GOD

The Gospel message went forth each night with the utmost clarity, those in attendance responding with an astounding openness of heart and willingness of spirit. When the invitation was given each night to accept Christ as Saviour, people flooded to the front, kneeling and weeping as they cried out to a God fraught to love, save and deliver. “I got to meet Jesus tonight,” exclaims a man named Basil, “it was extravagant! I am not a captive anymore, I am free!” Seventeen-year-old Natasha, a high school drop-out who had grown exhausted in her constant battle against drugs, was equally as enthusiastic. “I wanted to see people who know God” she said, explaining how she had spent two hours on a bus in order to reach the crusade grounds. “I thought that this is my time, it is my time to give my heart to the Lord,” she continued, describing how on inviting Jesus into her life, she felt an oppressive darkness lifting off of her, the experience filling her with the knowledge that she was leaving her past behind. “I am going to forget about the world,” she exclaimed, “and roll myself to Jesus!”

Each new believer received an Afrikaans booklet by Joyce Meyer expounding upon what it means to make a decision for Jesus. Such was very kindly donated by her ministry. In addition, JUIG! Magazine generously contributed a few hundred issues of their publication. Such were likewise distributed to the new believers, equipping them with some powerful reading material to both inspire and further educate them in their newfound walk with Christ.

DIVINE INTERVENTION

Long after each service was finished, we stood praying for those in need. From drug addiction and unemployment to sickness and marital dilemmas, we lifted each request up to heaven in heartfelt supplication. Tears were shed in abundance, hope restored, broken bodies healedand demons castout. People bore witness of depression being lifted, pains disappearing, aching bones receiving renewed strength. A certain lady who came forward for prayer on a certain evening, testified the next day with great rejoicing. A tumour on her thyroid had filled her heart with fear. She was frantic in her need for God to intervene. Intervene He did! On visiting the doctor the day following the service, she was informed that the tumour had entirely disappeared. What can we say, we truly serve a God of the miraculous!

FIREFALL

As is the normal practice at an IN HIS NAME crusade, we minister on the final evening not only on salvation, but also on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. We laid hands on hundreds to receive this divine gift, the fire falling from heaven with awesome abundance. A great noise surged towards heaven as people began speaking in tongues for the first time. Wow, what a night! Rejoicing filled the tent as a certain melody was sung: “Singing glory hallelujah, when the fire came down…” Glory, hallelujah, indeed!
